Historical Context

Mary Norris Smith and her mother, Elizabeth owned several taverns and a general store in Haddonfield and the general area.  During the war, the taverns would be used as headquarters for Washington and others.

It is in this generation that alcoholism becomes an apparent problem for Isaac, Samuel and others.  It continues to be a challenge to family members today.

The Jennings and their Hopkin step-brothers moved to Waynesville, Warren County Ohio.
